Strategic Initiative by the University of Kurdistan for Scientific Advancement: A Projected 100 Billion Toman Research Budget
According to the University of Kurdistan Public Relations office, the joint session was held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 (14 Bahman 1404), attended by Dr. Hossein Afshin, Vice President for Science and Technology; Dr. Zandian, Member of Parliament for Bijar; and officials from the Planning and Budget Organization. The meeting focused on strategies to enhance the province's scientific and technological infrastructure.
At the onset of the meeting, Dr. Hormozinejad, President of the Iran Science Foundation, highlighted the remarkable scientific dynamism of the University of Kurdistan, stating: "The number of research projects submitted and approved by the University of Kurdistan in 2025-2026 has experienced a stunning 300% growth compared to the previous year, reflecting the high caliber of the region's elite scholars."
Dr. Afshin, the Vice President, emphasized the necessity of equitable resource distribution and support for mission-oriented universities, commending the high quality of research initiatives at the University of Kurdistan. Expressing optimism for enhanced bilateral cooperation, he noted that the volume of research contracts and credits could reach the 100-billion-Toman threshold in the coming year. He also expressed readiness to support the establishment of an Incubation and Innovation Center at the Bijar Faculty.
Dr. Si-o-Se Mardeh, President of the University of Kurdistan, detailed the institution’s academic and research achievements while addressing infrastructural constraints and budgetary limitations, calling for strategic support to facilitate a scientific leap. The session concluded with the presentation of a proposal package centered on equipping central laboratories and upgrading technological infrastructure, which was subsequently approved by the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy following expert evaluation.
