The Director of Physical Education at the University of Kurdistan announced that the university successfully hosted the Chess Championships for students of universities and higher education institutions within Region 5, featuring both male and female divisions.

According to the University of Kurdistan Public Relations office, Dr. Seyed Hossein Hosseini-Mehr stated that participants competed in three formats—Standard, Rapid, and Blitz—to secure qualification for the National Student Olympiad. He further noted that the event saw participation from the University of Kurdistan, Razi University, and Farhangian Universities of Lorestan and Ilam. The competition followed a structured format, with the Standard division held over three rounds, while the Rapid and Blitz divisions each consisted of five rounds.

Dr. Hosseini-Mehr emphasized that beyond vying for individual and team titles, the athletes competed primarily to earn a place in the 17th National Cultural and Sports Student Olympiad. The top performers from each category will officially represent the region at the upcoming national event.
